Live Shows

Gary Clark Jr.

May 9, 8 p.m.| Majestic Theatre
Gary Clark Jr. celebrates the release of his upcoming album, JPEG RAW, with two nights in North Texas. Yesterday was in Fort Worth, and tonight he’ll be at the Majestic with Abraham Alexander. If you miss those dates, you can always drive north—he’ll be at Choctaw Grand Casino in Durant, Oklahoma, on Sunday.

Waxahatchee

May 9, 8 p.m.| Tannahill’s Tavern & Music Hall, Fort Worth
Katie Crutchfield, otherwise known as Waxahatchee, is fresh off an appearance on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert. She’ll hit Fort Worth Thursday night in support of her latest album, Tigers Blood, released in March. She turned heads with her pre-pandemic release Saint Cloud, but the latest album also features new collaborators like Spencer Tweedy, Phil Cook, and MJ Lenderman. Good Morning will open.

Nicki Minaj

May 10, 8 p.m.| American Airlines Center
Dallas was always a stop on Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 World Tour, but the date moved up by one day after the Mavericks and the Stars hit round two of the playoffs in their respective leagues. Now that all the sports schedules are accommodated, Minaj will play the AAC Friday night, and hip-hop fans can rejoice. The tour name (and album) are a callback to her 2010 debut. Since then she’s hit a lot of milestones, including becoming the first woman to score 100 Billboard Hot 100 hits (she has 133 so far). She’ll be joined by Monica.

Kenny Chesney

May 11, 5 p.m.| AT&T Stadium, Arlington
Kenny Chesney brings his Sun Goes Down tour to Arlington Saturday night, and he’s including Uncle Kracker, Megan Moroney, and the Zac Brown Band in the fun. Chesney—who became most famous with his hit “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy,” released Born this year, but his tour name comes from his 2004 album of the same name. That album spawned six Billboard Hot Country singles—three hit No. 1.

Tom Sandoval & the MOST Extras

May 12, 7 p.m.| Echo Lounge & Music Hall
Despite writing at least four different stories about reality television shows for this website, I will confess that I only vaguely know what a Tom Sandoval is, and most of my knowledge was gleaned from reaction gifs people post on social media. At any rate, the Vanderpump Rules (which is, I’m told, not the reality TV show that involves boats, but sometimes might have boats) star will bring his cover band to Dallas. Go because you can and not because you should, and maybe don’t read the reviews ahead of time.

Decemberists

May 14, 8 p.m.| Majestic Theatre
The Decemberists kicked off their A Peaceable Kingdom Tour this month, and one of the first stops is Dallas. Expect to hear plenty of your favorites, but also some new stuff—their ninth studio album, As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again, will be released in June. Ratboys will open.

Jelly Roll

May 14, 9 p.m.| Billy Bob’s Texas, Fort Worth
Jelly Roll has been on a bit of a roll, bringing his blend of country and hip-hop to an ever-widening range of audiences. He may have started selling mixtapes as a teen, but the artist really hit his stride after the pandemic with a series of milestones that included a Grand Ole Opry appearance. His latest album, Whitsitt Chapel, hit the top of Billboard’s rock chart and the No. 2 spot on its country chart. Proceeds from Tuesday’s show at Billy Bob’s will go to provide homes for families of fallen first responders, and Gold Star families.

21 Savage

May 15, 7 p.m.| Dos Equis Pavillion
In January, 21 Savage released American Dream, his third album, and by April he had been named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2024. Burna Boy wrote glowingly of the British-born rapper and hip-hop artist, saying that his approach to the genre was “refreshingly genuine.” After an extensive tour with Drake, he set off on his first North American headlining tour this year. J.I.D, Nardo Wick, and 21 Lil Harold will open.
